My journey with my medical condition

As a woman with PCOS I have come across many ups and downs. I went through a soul damaging period during my teenage years because I was bullied due to the fact that I had started to grow facial hair. I was oblivious to the fact that my facial hair was a product of PCOS. It was only until my tests for PCOS had come back as positive that I went and done a little research on my condition. I had finally found the reason for my vast hair growth. To eliminate my facial hair I would wax, shave, tweeze and bleach my facial hair. I would also hide my face behind Pashmina shawls to conceal my face; I started to wear baggy tom boyish clothes to hide the fact that I am a woman. I was ashamed of my appearance, I hid away from the world until one day I decided enough was enough. I wanted to be happy within myself and not conform to societies standards; and so I did. I started to wear a thick black long beard to show the world that women do not need to change themselves to look a certain way; we can be happy confident just as ourselves. A positive body image is what I wanted to portray. I had finally found myself.

Living with PCOS has been a journey, I have tried in many ways to conquer my condition by dieting, and trying to control my sugar levels, and by consuming many different medications, but no avenue seemed clear. This was until I met Helen Mason A PCOS specialist. She has opened my eyes to the ways in which PCOS works. I have been given guidance to help control my condition. Helen Mason has given me the strength and confidence to move forward and fight my condition. I very much enjoyed meeting Helen, she is a lovely heart warming woman who made me feel comfortable and at ease.

I have found strength and determination through Helen to become a healthier and a better woman.

People always ask me….so when are you going to get rid of your beard??
My question to them is, why do i need to shave my beard?
I enjoy being different, it makes my life interesting for me and for others who are curious. #enjoylife
